Revel Sphere™
Privacy Policy
Your information helps community members find each other and do things together. That is the only job it has here. This policy says plainly what we collect, why, who touches it, and how you take it back.
Effective July 13, 2026
Who we are
Revel Sphere is a community engagement platform at revelsphere.org. For anything in this policy, write to hello@revelsphere.org. We answer plainly.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the Revel Sphere website (revelsphere.org) and the Revel Sphere mobile apps for iOS and Android (org.revelsphere.app). The website and the apps share one account and one set of data — what you see in one, you see in the other, and the practices below apply to both.
Information you share with us
Account information. Your email address, your name, and a password. Sign-in and password handling run through our authentication provider; we never see or store your password in plain text.
Profile details. The county and state you choose, interests you pick, and anything you add to your profile. Your region comes from what you tell us — we never read your device’s GPS or precise location.
Community activity. Spheres you join, events you sign up for and check in to, volunteer hours you log, posts, polls, reactions, comments, and messages you write. Content you post to a sphere or a county hub is visible to the other members of that space.
Messages to our assistants. What you type when you use a built-in assistant (like the Guide or an event-planning tool), so the assistant can respond.
Email preferences. Which categories of email you’ve turned on or off, and whether you’ve unsubscribed from everything.
Information collected automatically
Crash and error reports. When something breaks, we receive a technical report — device model, operating system version, app version, and what the code was doing. We use these only to find and fix problems.
Aggregate usage measurements. Anonymized, aggregate counts of page visits on our website, so we can tell which parts of the platform people use. These measurements don’t identify you and don’t follow you to other sites or apps.
Push notification tokens. If you turn notifications on in the app, your device issues a delivery token so we can send them. Turn notifications off and the token is unregistered.
Server logs. Standard technical records of requests to our servers, including IP address, kept briefly for security and reliability.
Device permissions in the apps
The mobile apps ask for as little as the work requires, and each permission does exactly one thing:
Camera. Used only to scan event check-in QR codes. Scanning happens entirely on your device — no photos or video are captured, stored, or sent anywhere.
Notifications. Used only to deliver the updates you’ve asked for — event reminders, sphere broadcasts, and similar. You choose whether to allow them, and you can turn them off any time in Settings.
Location. The apps never request device location. Your county and state come from what you enter in your profile.
How we use information
To run the platform. Signing you in, showing your spheres and events, tracking your RSVPs and volunteer hours, and delivering posts to the right community.
To send communications you’ve chosen. Event reminders, milestone notes, digests, and sphere broadcasts — each category has its own switch in Settings, and every email includes an unsubscribe link.
To power the assistants. Responding to what you ask, with the context needed to be useful (like the event you’re planning).
To keep things working and safe. Fixing crashes, preventing abuse, securing accounts, and understanding — in aggregate — which features serve people well.
To meet legal obligations. Responding to lawful requests and enforcing our policies when required.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites — on iOS, that means we never ask for tracking permission because there is nothing to ask about.
The assistants, specifically
Some tools on Revel Sphere are powered by AI — the Guide, the event-planning helpers, and similar. When you use one, your messages and the context the tool needs are sent to an AI model provider to generate the response, the same way your posts are sent to our database provider to be stored. Under our agreements with these providers, your messages are not used to train their models. You can read more about how we use AI at revelsphere.org/responsible-ai.
Who information is shared with
Other community members. Revel Sphere is a shared space. Your profile, your posts, your RSVPs, and your activity inside a sphere are visible to the members of that space — that visibility is the product working as intended. Organizers of an event can see its roster; co-leads of a sphere can see its members.
Service providers. A small set of companies process data on our behalf, under contracts that limit what they may do with it:
Supabase. Database, authentication, and file storage — where your account and community data live.
Vercel. Website hosting and the anonymized, aggregate usage measurements described above.
Resend. Delivers the emails you’ve opted into.
Sentry. Receives crash and error reports so we can fix problems.
Expo. Delivers push notifications and app updates for the mobile apps.
Apple and Google. Their notification services (Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging) carry push notifications to your device.
AI model providers (Anthropic, OpenAI). Process the messages you send to our assistants so the assistants can respond. Under our agreements, these providers don’t use your messages to train their models.
Legal requirements. We disclose information when the law genuinely requires it, and we keep such disclosures as narrow as the request allows.
How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Crash reports and server logs are kept only briefly — long enough to fix problems and investigate abuse. When you delete your account, your data is removed as described below; residual copies in encrypted backups age out within about 30 days. Aggregate numbers that never identified you — like a county hub’s total volunteer hours — may persist, because there is no longer anyone in them.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and everything in it, any time, two ways:
In the app. Open Settings and choose “Delete account.” This works in the iOS and Android apps.
By email. Write to hello@revelsphere.org from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We complete these requests within 30 days.
Deletion is complete: your profile, hours, signups, posts, messages, and preferences are all removed together. It cannot be undone.
Your choices and rights
Email. Every category of email has its own switch in Settings, every email has an unsubscribe link, and one control turns all of it off.
Notifications. Push notifications are off until you turn them on, and your device’s settings can silence them at any time.
Your data. You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — write to hello@revelsphere.org. Depending on where you live (including California and the European Union), these choices are also legal rights, and we honor them regardless of where you live. We never treat you differently for exercising them.
Children
Revel Sphere is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, write to hello@revelsphere.org and we will delete it.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access inside our systems is limited to what each part of the platform needs, and administrative operations run through controlled server-side paths. No system is perfect; if a breach ever affects your personal information, we will tell you promptly and plainly.
Where data is stored
Revel Sphere is operated from the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. If you use the platform from elsewhere, you are trusting your data to U.S. infrastructure, protected as this policy describes.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we will update it here and change the effective date at the top. If a change meaningfully affects how your information is handled, we will tell you directly — by email or a notice in the product — before it takes effect.
